On Chests & Loot Empty On Chests & Loot

Over the course of their adventures, players will come across monsters guarding chests which contain all manner of loot and treasures. Being that loot available from monsters is both restricted and limited, this is where we plan to distribute the majority of the worthwhile loot that players will find, especially gear.

To prevent the server from becoming over saturated with items, we are enforcing the following restriction: Characters may only loot from dungeons once per day.

This rule is towards chests only, not monsters. Monsters may be looted indefinitely.

There are a number of reasons for this. Primarily, it is a balance issue. To control treasure flow, we can either decrease the spawn rate of treasure chests which thereby affect all players, or we can restrict the frequency with which players may loot those same chests, which means more players will then have more adventuring options available to them. Let's face it, one of the reasons we go through a dungeon full of Big Baddies is so that we can hopefully get something nice from it! Reducing the spawn rate only serves to take some of that thrill away from other players.

Please use common sense when adhering to this rule.

Each zone has a predetermined number of chests that will spawn in a predetermined number of spawn locations. Therefore, the same dungeon may spawn a different number of chests in different locations containing different treasure over the course of the day. Dungeons and zones have a pretty clear theme to them, so it should be pretty easy to group like areas together and determine whether you've already looted from the dungeon for the day.

Example: Bob the Bestest goes tromping through Toad Knoll. On his way to the bandit cave, he stops at the fort and finds a chest where he loots The Greatest Dagger Ever. Then, he goes through both levels of the cave and bonks a few bandits over the heads and proceeds to loot from a few more treasure chests he finds. After a short while, it's pretty clear that the dungeon is finished; he's killed the bandits, completed a couple quests, and grabbed a few chests. He heads back to Shadowdale. Now, Suzy the Second Bestest is online and meets up with Bob, and convinces Bob to head back to Toad Knoll. On the way, they go through the fort and find two chests in the fort. One was the same that Bob had previously looted (now respawned) and the second is new and was clearly not there when he came through the first time (spawned the second time around when a higher number of chests was generated). Bob is not allowed to loot (or have any sort of right to the loot) from either chest. Suzy has full rights to whatever is looted and Bob must freely forfeit it. The same goes with any chests they may find in the bandit fort. And should either of those characters return again that day (real life day, not in game day), neither may so much as even open any chest they find (simply opening the chest will thereby cause it to despawn within one minute).

This system will work partly on trust; we trust the players to respect the rules without having to enforce it with a hard-coded system until such a time that one is put in place. Instead, we will be using a much easier and simpler to implement number of variables to track player's looting habits. Just as in any other situation, if we find a player either untrustworthy or cheating, they will be dealt with quickly and severely.

This rule will not be permanent and will be revised "soon" (once I have the time to address a related system). Until further notice, please consider this rule in effect.
